Once a person has enough to eat, is not scared of being attacked, has a place to sleep at night, the person is confronted with the mystery of what to do next. This question leads to the question what am I supposed to be doing generally, which is a variation of why am I alive? What is the point of all of us breathing and eating and sleeping? A good artist will distract from this mystery. A great artist will confront the person with this mystery so that the person can put it away in one part of their head, and use the other part to plan the next hour.
That's what I think! Happy sunday!

Garrison Keillor
I think that the role of a humorist is to pull people back from the edge of an existential crisis, and Garrison Keillor usually works for me.
