Holy Shit This Coffee is Strong

Despite 14 years drinking coffee I still have a predisposition towards making it paint thinner strong. It's not so much I don't have the recipe down (1 tbsp per cup, right?) it's that I have no sense of what a tbsp looks like if it's not a clearly marked measuring spoon.  And I would much rather be on the safe side than miss out on any precious life giving caffeine.

Things that are going on in my life: I'm going to New York and then Philly next week, then my summer classes start.

It has become very clear to me this year that the roots of fascism are racism. It's this country's deep and abiding racism that has made the conservative movement possible. And by the conservative movement, I mean militarization of local police forces, the trashing of the fourth amendment, and the military and prison industrial complexes. Rahm's Chicago is what I'm talking about.

Until we get rid of our racism we won't ever be safe from these maniacs and their CRAZY SCI-FI WEAPONS. Sound guns, seriously?

Other things that play into it: how depressed we all are and our fixation on celebrity pregnancies. Or maybe that's just me.

Now I don't think anyone who reads this blog would pull this under-handed move, but people in my college classes would use this objection all the time, so let me pre-emptively state: Me being able to write a blog post calling my government fascist does not prove that the government is not fascist. The people in guantanamo bay can't write blog posts. All the people in our prisons can't write blog posts. Also, being able to write a blog post 50 people will read if I'm lucky, and being able to gather publicly in large numbers to protest N.A.T.O. are two very different ways of registering dissent, and guess which medium is more effective? Not the one I use to highlight my favorite hits of the eighties.

The eternal flame of democracy?

But luckily I believe in magic and intuition and unseen forces gathering in other realms, so I remain hopeful about the possibilities of societal transformation in my lifetime. If I was really into my rational mind I think I'd feel pretty hopeless. But the magical thinking Derrick Jensen criticizes- I am INTO it. Let's all cast spells to get some democracy, because it's not like the Employee Free Choice Act took.

Sometimes I feel like I'm everything my parents could possibly be ashamed of. Then I'm like, they'll deal.

1 Comments:

  • After watching the footage of Chicago this weekend, my suspicions that fascism is a bipartisan pursuit to maintain the control of the select few was only further entrenched.

    Also, this made me mad.
